and Please see below some useful information which will help you through the examination period and explain the procedures and regulations you need to follow. It will also help to answer any questions you may have.
CANDIDATE NUMBERS
You are each given a candidate number. You MUST remember this number and ensure you write it on each exam paper. Your candidate number is the same throughout your school career. Failure to write your candidate number on your exam papers could cause a delay in sending them off for marking, or lead to a case of mistaken identity! Please ensure you write your candidate number on ALL exam papers.
DURING THE EXAMINATION PERIOD
Examination start times are 8:45am and 1:45pm, unless you have a clash and are otherwise informed. You must arrive in school at least 15 minutes before your exam is due to begin. When you arrive at school, please go straight to your examination venue. Once you arrive at your examination venue, you must wait until you are called to enter. A member of staff will call students into the room in row order so it is essential that you make a note of your row and seat number from your timetable for each exam. Please check your pockets to ensure you do not have anything on you which you do not need for the exam. You should not have a mobile phone, Air pods, Earphones/Earbuds, iPods, any watch, MP3/4 players, no potential technological/web enabled sources of information, reading pens, notes, books, papers or calculator cases.
When you enter the room you must do so in silence. You must find your desk quickly and quietly. Once you have found your desk, you must sit in silence and face the front of the room. *Any form of communication, including turning around can be considered as malpractice.*
You must attend all examinations with the correct equipment, e.g. pens, pencils, ruler, eraser, calculator (without case). You must use a clear pencil case or
plastic bag. Calculators –make sure that your calculator is of the type allowed by the examination boards. If in doubt, check with your subject teacher before study leave begins. You are responsible for removing any programmes and data from your calculator before the examination; you may be required to demonstrate that you have done so. It is a serious infringement of the rules to attempt retrieval of such information. It is a good idea to put new batteries
into your calculator before the examination season starts.
You must not attempt to pass anything to or take anything from another student while you are in the examination venue.
AT THE START OF THE EXAMINATION
You will need to complete the details on the front of the exam paper:
A large number of exam papers are now marked online. This means they are scanned so if you have written in an incorrect colour or pencil, your answer may not be picked up by the scanner and you will receive zero marks.
Before the examination starts; read the front of the question paper carefully. If you are in doubt about the instructions or have any other query then put your hand up and wait for an invigilator.
You are not allowed to bring any food or drink with you into the exam room. You may bring a bottle of water, providing you have removed all labels.
*Please remember you are not allowed to leave the examination venue to go to the toilet, so please drink your water in moderation!
Mobile phones and Watches are NOT ALLOWED into the exam room even if your mobiles phone is turned off in your bag. The examination boards will disqualify anyone found to have a mobile phone on or near them, even if they did not intend to use it. Please do not bring your mobile phone with you to any examinations.
When the examination has finished, you must remain in silence while your papers are collected in. Once all the papers have been collected you will be asked to leave in rows. When you leave, you must do so in silence as other students may still be writing in the exam room.
*If you have a clash, please remain seated and a member of the exams team will come to escort you to your next venue.
Once you have been dismissed, please leave the building immediately, and make your way home.
WHAT IF……
I forget to come to an exam?
I am late?
I am too ill to sit my exam?
I need to go to the toilet?
The fire alarm sounds?
MOBILE PHONES
The examination boards have a very strict rule regarding mobile phones and other electronic devices. They are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. You are not allowed to have them on or near you, even if you do not intend to use them. The normal practice for anyone found to have a mobile phone in their possession, including in their bag, is disqualification from the exam paper and/or the subject. As a centre, we would have to report any form of malpractice to the examination
boards. There are no exceptions!

WHAT IF……
I forget to come to an exam?
- You can only sit an exam at the time set by the awarding bodies. If you forget to attend, you have missed your opportunity to sit that exam.
I am late?
- You must have a valid reason for being late to an exam. Saying you overslept or forgot you had an exam will not be a valid excuse. If you arrive within 30 minutes you will be allowed to sit the examination. It will be up to the discretion of the Examinations Officer if you are allowed to have the full
time allowed. If you arrive within 60 minutes you may sit the exam. However, it will be up to the awarding body to decide if they will mark your exam paper. In most cases they don’t!
- If you have a medical condition, are ill during the examinations or are affected by exceptional circumstances, such as family bereavement, you must inform Miss Kundi straight away. Medical conditions do require written evidence from your doctor covering the relevant period.
I am too ill to sit my exam?
- If you are too ill to sit your examination a letter from your doctor is required. This will be submitted to the examining body who may award a grade based on
coursework or any other exams taken within the subject, but only if 50% of the overall award has been completed.
I need to go to the toilet?
- Students are not allowed to leave the examination except under exceptional circumstances. As a general rule, students are not granted permission to leave the room to go to the toilet.
- If you have 2 examinations timetabled at the same time you should have received clash arrangements with your exam timetable. This will generally mean you sitting one exam after the other or one exam a little earlier or later than the scheduled time (providing you have no other examinations timetabled for that day!) Please check your timetable for exact start times and details. In between sitting the exams you will need to be supervised by a member of staff. You will not be allowed to communicate with any other students and you will not be allowed to use a mobile phone. You must bring a packed lunch as you will not have the use of the school canteen. If you haven’t received clash arrangements please speak to the exams officer immediately.
The fire alarm sounds?
- If the fire alarm sounds you must stop writing and remain in silence while you wait for instructions. When you are asked to do so, you must leave your examination venue in silence and make your way to the mauve courtyard opposite the drama studio.
You must not take your examination paper or any of your belongings
with you. While you are waiting for clearance to re-enter the building you are still under examination conditions and should under NO CIRCUMSTANCES talk to other students or use a mobile phone. Any breach of conditions will result in disqualification from your examination paper or subject.
